ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Re-RCT

WHY RE-RCT?

A Second Chance for Your Treated Tooth

Sometimes a tooth treated earlier becomes painful or infected again, for example because of a leaking filling, a missed canal or new decay. Re-RCT carefully removes the old filling, cleans the canals again and reseals the tooth, giving it a second chance.

THE PROCESS

What to Expect

Re-RCT takes extra care and attention, and is usually completed over one or two visits.

1

Assessment & X-ray

We find out why the earlier treatment failed and plan the retreatment.

2

Numbing & Reopening

Under local anaesthesia, the old crown or filling and canal material are carefully removed.

3

Re-cleaning the Canals

The canals are cleaned, disinfected and shaped again, and any missed canals are found.

4

Resealing & Restoration

The canals are sealed again, and the tooth is rebuilt with a new filling or crown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about re-RCT.

Common reasons are bacteria left in the canals, a missed canal, a leaking filling or crown, or a new crack or decay. X-rays help us find the cause.

It is more complex than first-time treatment, so it takes more time and care. We plan it carefully and explain the steps first.

No. The tooth is numbed, so you should feel little or no discomfort during treatment.

Usually one or two, depending on how much infection is present and how complex the canals are.

If the tooth cannot be saved, we will discuss other options such as a minor surgical procedure or replacing the tooth.

Often yes. Replacing an old, leaking crown helps seal the tooth and protects the treatment.
