WHY PEDIATRIC ORTHODONTICS?

Guide Growing Teeth Into the Right Place

While a child's jaws are still growing, we can guide teeth and jaws into better positions. Early orthodontic care can make later treatment simpler, correct harmful habits such as thumb sucking, and help permanent teeth come in properly.

We take photos, X-rays and impressions, and check your child's bite and jaw growth.

2

Treatment Plan

We explain whether treatment is needed now or if it is best to watch and wait.

3

Fitting the Appliance

If needed, a comfortable appliance such as an expander or habit-breaker is fitted.

4

GOOD TO KNOW

Good to Know

  • Not every child needs early treatment. Many children are just monitored as they grow
  • Children need to cooperate with wearing and caring for their appliance
  • Full braces are usually done later, when most permanent teeth have come in
  • Good brushing is important, so we treat any cavities first

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about pediatric orthodontics.

Around the age of seven is a common time for a first check, though we can see your child earlier if you have concerns.

Appliances can feel strange or slightly sore at first, but most children get used to them within a few days.

Some children do. Early treatment often makes later braces shorter and simpler, but it does not always remove the need for them.

This varies, but many early treatments last several months to a year or so, followed by monitoring as the permanent teeth come in.

We start with praise, reminders and encouragement, and can fit a small habit-breaking appliance when it is needed.

Brush carefully around it, avoid sticky or hard foods and keep all follow-up visits.
