GUM TREATMENT

Flap Surgery

WHY FLAP SURGERY?

Reach Deep Infection & Protect Your Teeth

When gum pockets are too deep for regular cleaning, flap surgery gives us direct access to the roots and bone. We remove hidden tartar and infected tissue, then place the gums back so they heal snugly around your teeth.

THE PROCESS

What to Expect

Flap surgery is a planned, comfortable procedure performed under local anaesthesia by our experienced periodontal team.

1

Consultation & X-rays

We assess pocket depth and bone levels to plan your treatment.

2

Numbing & Access

After local anaesthesia, the gum is gently lifted back like a small flap.

3

Deep Cleaning

Tartar and infected tissue are removed and the bone is reshaped if needed.

4

Stitches & Healing

The gum is repositioned and stitched, then we check your healing at follow-up.

THE BENEFITS

Treatment That Goes Deeper

Full Access to Deep Pockets

Lets us clean areas that non-surgical treatment cannot reach.

Reduces Pocket Depth

Gums fit closer to the teeth, leaving fewer places for bacteria.

Helps Protect Teeth

Slows bone loss and supports long-term tooth stability.

Easier Home Care

Shallower pockets are simpler to keep clean every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about flap surgery.

The area is fully numbed with local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Some soreness afterwards is normal and can be managed with medication we advise.

Most flap surgeries take about one to two hours, depending on how many areas are being treated.

When pockets are too deep for instruments to reach through the gum opening, lifting the gum is the only way to clean the roots thoroughly and reshape damaged bone.

Gums usually feel comfortable within a week, and stitches are removed or dissolve in around 7 to 14 days. Full healing takes a few weeks.

Stick to soft, cool or lukewarm foods for the first few days and avoid hard, spicy or very hot foods near the treated area.

As with any surgery, some swelling, tooth sensitivity or minor bleeding can occur. Our team will explain everything and give you clear aftercare instructions.
