ORAL PATHOLOGY
WHY BIOPSY?
A biopsy is a small, quick procedure in which a tiny piece of tissue is taken from a sore, lump or patch in your mouth and examined in a laboratory. It is the most reliable way to find out exactly what is causing the problem, so the right treatment can begin.
THE PROCESS
A biopsy is a short, comfortable procedure carried out under local anaesthesia in our clinic.
We examine the area, explain why a biopsy is advised and answer your questions.
Local anaesthesia numbs the area, so you feel no pain during the procedure.
A small piece of tissue, or in some cases the whole small lesion, is removed, and a stitch may be placed.
The sample is examined in a laboratory, and we go through the report and next steps with you.
THE BENEFITS
Shows exactly what the sore, lump or patch is.
Avoids guesswork and unnecessary treatment.
Usually done in a single short visit.
Clear answers help you plan with confidence.
